Crochet Hooks
When I started crocheting, I started with a crochet hook from the dollar store and it did the trick I learned on it and it held up very well and is still one of my favourite hooks to use. But after I got the hang of crocheting, I looked for hooks in a range of sizes that I could enjoy and use regularly no matter what size an item or pattern called for.
Crochet hooks can be very expensive so shopping around for a good price is key. Places like Michael's do have hooks but they can be very expensive. For me, Amazon was a great place to buy a nice set of Crochet Hooks. I paid $5.49 (USD) right now they are $8.49 (USD) which isn't a bad price either you get 8 hooks and they all have comfort grips. They are well worth the price and you can get free shipping if your order is expensive enough.

There are many different types of crochet hooks. You can get metal hooks, plastic hooks, hooks with grips, hooks with handles, and of course wooden hooks. These Bamboo Crochet Hooks are beautiful and they are cheap (they flex back and forth), when I bought them they were $3.03 (USD) currently they sell for $6.99 (USD) which is still a great price. They ship for free because they are sold by and shipped by Amazon - which ships for free when you have an order over a certain amount.
The best advice I can give with any wooden hooks is to oil them before you use them. Sometimes the wood is rough and doesn't always glide as well as it should and oil helps with that. I used regular vegetable oil, any oil you have should be fine (making sure to wipe off excess oil).
Tunisian is a different style or type of crocheting so the hooks are a little different. If you have a small Tunisian project you can use a regular hook but for larger projects, you need these special hooks. Again, hooks come in different materials, in this case, they are plastic. We encourage you to buy these just to test out Tunisian first and then if you like them invest in more expensive sets if need be. Currently, they sell for $2.99 (USD) which is a great price and they ship for free.
