Ombre Yarn

Ombre Yarn from Bernat. Ombre is a line that is mixed colours. With pooling being so popular lately a lot of people have heard of this line. This yarn does pool so feel free to try that out! It is a medium worsted yarn, and works up very easily.

I used the Winter Sky Yarn from this collection to make a simple Half Double Crochet blanket. I didn't pool it because I wanted the "chaos" for this blanket since it was just plain with no graph or anything.

I ordered the yarn from Amazon because my local yarn stores didn't have it. I paid $8.35 per ball. Now with Amazon, it was an add-on item. This meant that my order had to be over so much to be able to buy the yarn. So I just ordered all the balls I needed at the same time. I had to order 7 balls to be able to get them all. One of the great things of buying directly from Amazon is that your order ships for free if it is over a certain amount of money. (At the time it was $25, now it is $35.)

Vanna's Choice

Vanna's Choice Yarn by Lion's Brand is one of my favourite brands of yarn to work with. It is soft and really easy to use and work with. It slides through easily and you don't have to wrestle with it. The only complaint I have with it is that is tends to be smaller than most yarns of the same weight. I would caution anyone using it on squares that the finished product will be smaller than if you used Red Heart for example.

When making a project with multiple colours I often encourage people to use the same brand of yarn for this reason. If you were to make say granny squares with Red Heart and Vanna's Choice, some squares would be smaller than the other and it would throw the whole project off.

Red Heart Scrubby

Read Heart Scrubby has the texture of an S.O.S pad, it is very scrubby and rough and is suppose to work well in clean up. I was very excited to try this yarn and add projects with it to my shop. When I first used it, I hated it. It is so hard to work with and see the stitches in. I was told to use it with cotton that would work better and it did. Eventually, once I got used to it, I could work with the Scrubby alone but it takes practice. Also, keep in mind that even with the cotton it is hard to work with.
