Sunday Cooking - Won Ton Soup
Won Ton Soup, who doesn't love it. But for some reason the soup is hard to find and hard to get right. Not anymore.
This recipe is easy to make, it is very delicious and can be had as a meal itself or you can add egg rolls to it to finish off the meal. It is so good you'll definitely want seconds. This recipe is great to do with children, they can play in the meat and help with making the Won Tons.
The thing you must remember about this meal is that it takes a lot of prep work and time, however you can do this the day before if that is a better option for you.
What you'll need:
1 pound Ground Pork (you can substitute for ground chicken)
2 bundles of Green Onions
Soy Sauce
1 Egg
Won Ton Wrappers
2 Boxes of Chicken Broth
Chicken Bovril (we use the bottled one, you can use cubes)
To start you want to add the Ground Pork, 1 chopped bundle of Green Onions, 1 TBSP of Soy Sauce, and 1 Egg to a large mixing bowl. This is where you can let your children run wild. They can mix the meat together and once it is all incorporated, they can help make small meatballs.
There are many different ways to do these next steps. One you can make all the meatballs first and then wrap them in the Won Tons, or you can wrap them into Won Tons as you go. Either way you want to make smaller than average meatballs so they fit well into the Won Tons. This is a great job for young children that are interested in cooking.
Once you have your Won Tons wrapped, we place them on a tray or baking sheet. You will want to make sure to spray it with cooking spray or flour to make sure the Won Tons don't stick or break.
The Won Tons can be stored in the fridge until they are ready to be cooked.
The Broth:
When starting the broth, you want to pour into a large pot on high heat the two boxes of chicken broth. Slowly, add Chicken Bovril to the broth until you have the strength you like. If the broth is too weak, continue adding Bovril, if it is too strong add water. Once you have the broth at the taste you like, bring to a boil if not already. Once the broth is boiling, gently and carefully add the Won Tons to the liquid.
We boil the Won Tons for 10 minutes, then cut one open to make sure there is no more pink whatsoever. Ten minutes should be enough or up to fifteen. Please always test to make sure before eating.
Top with chopped green onions (optional), soy sauce on the side (optional).
